Ingrid Tarrant-Gap Rating 4/10

Ingrid was one of the most popular reporters on ITV1’s This Morning, having presented various strands within the programme including “Behind the Scenes of…” and “Haunted House”.  She also presented BBC1's successful TV Mail.

She and her husband Chris have just completed the second series of Tarrant's Way  for ITV1,  in which they travelled the country in her rare vintage 1938 Bentley Drop head (only three of its kind known to exist in the world), which she inherited from her father.

She is passionate about driving, having passed her Advanced driving test and she then went on to have lessons in mechanics and attended lectures on maintaining old Bentleys. She started a company called 'Bentley, Bows and Belles', hiring her car out for weddings and other special occasions.

Ingrid enjoys a hectic and varied life. She and Chris have six children. She is a DIY expert and does all her own interior design, painting, decorating and all household drilling and repairs. She designed an extension to the family home and re-designed and painted the kitchen and conservatory. Ingrid has also wallpapered and painted the whole house, as well as making some wall lights for the sitting room. She has made all her curtains.

An award winning travel writer, Ingrid's  other love is travelling – the rougher and more obscure the better! She has done several pieces for ITV’s Wish You Were Here, including a journey to the last city of the Incas with Chris, safaris in Tanzania and Kenya and a trip to the Pyramids of Egypt.

She loves challenges and adventures. In 1997, Ingrid ran the London Marathon. A year later, she completed a national swimathon in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. In 2000, she did a 5 day trek along Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu, Peru in aid of The Children's Society and last year she climbed to summit of Kilimanjaro (with friends, for fun) and did a 6-day Himalayan trek in Nepal in aid of The Children's Society. This was followed by a holiday to Chitwan, reached part way by white-water rafting. Whilst there, she went to watch Elephant Polo and ended up by playing in one of their matches!

Other TV appearances include Forces Sweethearts for BBC1 and several shows on Radio 5 Live and LBC radio discussing the day’s news topics.

Ingrid started her career in the seventies as a fashion designer and she then built up a thriving export business before opening a separate successful retail outlet in Kings Road, Chelsea. At the same time, she freelanced at ITN, moving from the crew assignment desk to the Newsdesk where she co-ordinated coverage of special events such as the Election and the Iran war.

Her newsdesk work at ITN led to her joining TVAM in 1983 three months before its launch to help set up the News Desk and facilities.
